PAPATRI
16 March 2009Hey all,
welcome to my blog. I ll be posting whenever i feel like it and whenever i find it mandatory (if). Please excuse my spelling mistakes if i make some. After all i play poker and i am not an english-literature professional
My name is Vrahimis and i am from Nicosia/Cyprus. I am 30 years old, born on the 13th of June 1978, married with a Finn (not Ziigmund's sister but another Finn
). I am from a country that is considered among other meditteranean countries (not to name) to contain the most fishes of online poker rooms
. I am proud at least that we have a title and we are not among the neutrals.
About me
Since i was a kid, i was always searching for challenges. I started practising karate at the age of 6 and by the age of 14 i already had mastered it with a black belt. I won 6 Cyprus champion titles and runner up and 3rd a lot of other times, but made none internationals due to my age. After the age of 15 i started considering karate a loss of time and boring. Then i quit and at the same time i quit everything decent i was doing (playing keyboards, trumpet, alto horn and going to music theory classes lol etc.). In the mean time i was always involved in playing football in some local teams.
Age 16-New interests- After i quit all of the above mentioned my new interests were on a totally opposite direction. Playing cards, going to football matches, hanging out with friends and teazing all my school teachers were my new hobbies. Obviously i couldnt avoid being a gang member and gang fights were also among my new hobbies (another LOL).
In 1994 me and my m8s were introduced to Poker. 5 card draw was our game played at a very low stake but offcourse huge enough for that time if u consider that our BR probably be 0-100$ maximum and playing it all at once
. Little that we knew at that time many of the players (including me) were going totally broke and searching for some extra $ to join next day's game. After two years of playing poker and some other games most of my m8s went to army and the games suddenly stopped. The good thing was that i was one of the bigger winners
. After that, for like 5 years i was only playing another game called pilotta and i was doing well in that as well.
In 2002 i was involved with some other m8s in a homegame. Playing almost any kind of game poker was again introduced back. We could meet in the evening about 8 o clock and play as late as 5-6 am. We always started with other card games and at about 1-2am we always shift into poker. This time, games such as slaughter, follow the queen, elevator and many more including NL texas holdem were introduced. While i was doing very well in all kind of other games i was always losing in poker. This fact was frustrating me and i only thought i was just unlucky (lol). The fact that i was winning on other games though made my poker losses seem softer.
2003- After graduating i used to run a cafeteria and a guy comes in one day with a chess set. He asks me to play a game and with just knowing a few moves i did pretty well. I liked the fact and the concept of the game after he explained to me some basics, so by the end of the night i was home playing chess in Yahoo games. I remember even winning some and my excitment went sky high. To make a long story short within 1 year i was involved in the Cyprus Chess Championship and ended up in the middle at the end which was a great result for a newbie like me. Following year, i was so active and got ellected as the president of the biggest chess club in cyprus. With the help of another (now poker player Kifinas33 http://kifinas33.blogspot.com/) we managed to organise some of the best tournaments in Cyprus and got the chess going bigger on the island. Mean while the home poker games were still going on and my result were ok, but still nothing special with poker.
late 2006- I was sitting at a friends cafe along with one of my best m8s, Nicos,(PERVOLINIO in partypoker) and i went and grab a 52card deck and brought it on the table. I asked him to place 2CYP each (4$ for the sake of the game) and play a NL texas holdem tournament HU. As we were playing friend of us came and was curius to see what we were playing. After we told him, he asked to cancel the game and resume it with three of us in. We set the stake to 10CYP then (20$) in order to make it more valueable!!!! After finishing the tournament (i won i think) they all liked the idea and we even got another 2-3 friends by the end looking anxious to play in the next one. Within 2 hours we found ourselves playing a cash game (amounts written on a paper as it is illegal to play in a public cafe). At the end of the session i was the biggest winner with over 4000$ win in a frienldy game (very friendly eh?). Although many of them went broke, they loved the game and we started playing it on a regular basis. Being a chess player, and used to reading theory i went on and purchased some poker books. I read so many books and i started to realise how important some things were and how bad i was playing but still winning. Within a few months my game changed dramatically to a very big extend vs the rest of most players, making me and a couple of others the bigger long -term winners of the game. While the games were running, one of my chess m8s, sicksick (in pokerstars) came back from the USA where he was studying. I got told by another chess player that he is a very good NL texas holdem player. In a matter of a minute i was on the phone with him inviting him on our poker games. He joined us and with just a few hands played i realise how good he is. We had a new winner in the game, but that didnt bother me at all. I also found it very interesting cause i had someone better than me to exchange ideas and concepts of the game. Over the time, Sicksick, introduced me into new concepts of the game and into more advance plays making my game even better.
2007-Early in 2007 i made an account with paradisepoker. and betfair.com in order to start playing online. Facing toughest competition it didnt take long to lose a decent amount playing cash games online. I used money from my winnings of the live cash games but i was a regular deposit machine in the online cash games. Despite the fact that i was losing i never lost my confidence cause knowing me how deep i can go into something all i needed to do is master my game. I was just feeling it was matter of time (and i was correct). So i went on and purchased some more advanced books as well as i got subscribed into some poker learning sites for advanced players. I never paid attention to online tournaments only when i was one night sitting out on a table in betfair after i got busted from a cash game. I looked into my account and with 50$ remain i couldnt reload into the game. I started playing some low limit sngs and soon i rebuild some decent bankroll the same night. It was probably my first sngs i ever played online and won most. Following day i got more deep into seeing a hand history of a famous top professionall how he/she played a specific tournament. It didnt take me long to understand how the small ball strategy was working by applying constant pressure and playing a lot more hands in position etc etc....and most of all i realised that finally A4s is not a hand
. Within a month i already started becoming very competitive in any type of tournaments. SNGs, small MTTs and regular size Mtts were becoming my new interests. By the end of 2007 i was feeling like stronger than ever before, having played a lot of hands and having read as many books as i could possibly read i wanted to start playing on other sites other than Betfair. So on 30/NOV/2007 i made my first account with partypoker.com. Under the name Visionary444 i started playing 1-2 tournaments a day cause i wasnt used to the softwear. 5th of February 2008 i made my best cash online in a tournament ending 4th in a speed 120$ Buy in in Stars. $1827, five days later i win $777 and on the same time i was crushing the sngs and small tourneys in betfair under the name AUST. WOW- Even though the amounts were funny and i ve won much more in a live cash game, beating the competition online seemed more victorious to me.
2008-GREAT YEAR ONLINE-
